Peardale / Chicago Park / Cedar Ridge
Located on Highway 174 between Grass Valley and Colfax is the Peardale / Chicago Park area. The landscape boasts lovely tree cover and an abundance of beautiful terrain. In 1880, the first settlers arrived at the Peardale area from Illinois. The region drew in travelers with its simple, natural beauty and rich soil. Peardale / Chicago Park was later settled by a group of Italian immigrants searching for a place to establish a new life and pear farming.
Soon after, the great gold rush of the west began. The pear orchards in Peardale / Chicago Park were overrun by prospectors seeking their fortune. Today, there are few pear orchards remaining; however, the community is just as wonderful a place to live. From the majestic oaks and cedar trees to the expansive Rollins Lake, Peardale/ Chicago Park offers an abundance scenery and recreation.
Residents of Peardale/ Chicago Park enjoy fishing on Rollins Lake and walking nature trails. Many just enjoy soaking up the quiet beauty of the Sierra Nevada foothills. The quiet is one of the aspects residents like most about living in this community, along with the convenient location close to the larger towns of Grass Valley and Colfax.
Both Peardale and Chicago Park are unincorporated and are a part of Nevada County. The cost of living in this area is very affordable. There are several different price points and home styles to choose from. Condos, town homes and single family estates fill these hills, and home seekers can find very reasonably priced pieces of property.
Cedar Ridge is another small, unincorporated area along Hwy 174. It’s known for its forested setting, nestled amidst thick sections of cedar and oak trees. Many settle in Cedar Ridge because of the gorgeous landscape, the peaceful community, and overall affordability of the area.
Within Cedar Ridge sits The Cedars, a small gated community featuring fine luxury living for the discerning home buyer. Homes found within The Cedars are often priced closer to the millions and are a luxurious getaways for the home buyer or vacation home seeker.
The communities of Peardale / Chicago Park and Cedar Ridge are close to the historical Empire Mine State Park, where visitors can enjoy a museum, tours, exhibits and miles of trails. Cedar Ridge does get some snowfall during the winter and spring. However, the area still yields quite a bit of agriculture, from apples and pears to peaches, pumpkins, grapes, berries and vegetables.
